It's the most wonderful time of the year 🎵! You know where I'm going with this! It's time for Christmas markets, and Montreal does not disappoint! What's better than sipping hot cocoa or mulled wine on a chilly evening, surrounded by Christmas decorations, local shops, yummy treats and the smell of wood fires?

I look forward to this time of year. It brings me so much joy, and I'm ready to welcome winter with open arms. Yep, I'm one of those crazy fans of winter, but that's for another day.

The 2026 season starts early: the Grand Marché de Noël opens on November 13 in its new home at Place des Festivals and stays open into January. Here are 8 Christmas markets in and around Montreal for 2026, with dates, hours and how to get there.

2. Le Village de Noël de Montréal (Montreal Christmas Village) at Atwater Market

The Christmas Village is set up beside the Atwater Market along the canal, next to the Christmas tree sellers. In 2026 it brings together 59 Québec artisans selling ethical and eco-friendly gifts, plus more than 90 free activities. Families will love the Kingdom of the Elves and Santa's office, where photos with Santa are free on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tip: Go hungry. The Atwater Market itself is right there, so you can pick up cheese, bread and maple treats for your holiday table after you've finished at the stalls.

3. Marché artisanal du Vieux-Port de Montréal (Old Port Artisan Market)

This one is new to my list! For two weekends, the Old Port's Pavillon Jacques-Cartier hosts a heated indoor market with 40 kiosks each weekend and 80 Québec artisans in total. Everything is made in Québec: fine foods, body care, decor, games, jewellery and handmade goods. It's the perfect plan B for a really cold day, and it lines up nicely with Black Friday weekend if you want to get your gift shopping done early.

Location: Pavillon Jacques-Cartier, 2 rue de la Commune Est, on the Jacques-Cartier Pier at the foot of the Grande Roue

Dates: November 27–29 and December 4–6, 2026

Hours: Friday 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., Saturday 12 p.m. – 8 p.m., Sunday 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Christmas markets in Laval

4. Marché de Noël aux Serres Cléroux (Christmas Market at Serres Cléroux)

This one is back on my list, and it's the earlier of my two Laval picks! For one weekend only, the Serres Cléroux greenhouses in Sainte-Dorothée host a Christmas market with more than 50 exhibitors, right inside the greenhouses. Serres Cléroux is one of the region's big poinsettia growers, so you'll shop surrounded by thousands of them in bloom. It's a fun family outing to discover local crafts and find unique gifts for your loved ones.

Location: Serres Cléroux, 1570 rue Principale, Sainte-Dorothée (Laval), QC H7X 4A8

Dates: Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22, 2026

5. Marché de Noël de Laval (Laval Christmas Market) at the Centre de la Nature

The Laval Christmas Market is back at the Centre de la Nature for two weekends. More than 50 local artisans set up in wooden cabins and containers in the Village des arts and the playground area, and there's a full lineup of free activities: free hot chocolate, a visit from Santa, face painting, letters to Santa, stories and a mini-tree you plant, decorate and take home. Food trucks are on site, and dogs on a leash are welcome.

Location: Centre de la Nature, 901 avenue du Parc, Laval (Québec) H7E 2T7

Dates: December 4–6 and December 11–13, 2026

Hours: Friday 12 p.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Entry: Free

Getting there: The Centre de la Nature's regular parking lots are open during the market. Parking is free for Laval residents with proof of residence; everyone else pays $6 for 3 hours or $9 for the day. Accessible parking is in lot P3.

Christmas markets on the South Shore

6. Marché de Noël et des traditions de Longueuil

This is one of the very first Christmas markets in Québec, and 2026 is its 20th-anniversary edition. Wander the lit-up paths of Parc St. Mark in Old Longueuil and browse the cabins of nearly 70 exhibitors: jewellery, accessories, body care, home goods and local food products. Don't skip the chalet-bar. The pretzels come hot out of the bread oven, and the mulled wine and hot chocolate are homemade. Santa visits too.

Location: Parc St. Mark, 340 rue Saint-Charles Ouest (between Saint-Jean and Saint-Sylvestre), Longueuil, QC J4H 1E8

Dates: November 27 to December 20, 2026 (Fridays to Sundays)

Hours: Friday 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Entry: Free

Tip: Everything is outdoors, so dress warmly! Friday evening is the best time to see the village all lit up.

Christmas markets in Lanaudière (day trips)

7. Le Marché de Noël de L'Assomption

About 45 minutes from Montreal, the L'Assomption Christmas market turns downtown into a European-style Christmas village. More than 65 artisans and local producers from Lanaudière and the surrounding area set up in illuminated "CabaNoël" cabins.

Location: Downtown L'Assomption, 270 boulevard de l'Ange-Gardien, L'Assomption, QC J5W 3S8

Opens: Thursday, November 26, 2026, and runs into the week before Christmas

Hours: Thursday to Saturday 12 p.m. – 8 p.m., Sunday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

8. Le Marché de Noël de Joliette

About an hour from Montreal, the Joliette Christmas market lights up downtown Joliette and celebrates Lanaudière's food, music and traditions. The Village des artisans brings together about 30 artisans and local producers. Look for the giant Christmas tree in the middle of the square. It makes the perfect backdrop for a photo. Kids can meet Santa at his house on Friday evenings (except November 27) and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Location: Downtown Joliette

Dates: November 26 to December 23, 2026

Hours: Thursday and Friday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Exhibitors are closed Monday to Wednesday, except Dec 21, 22 and 23 (11 a.m. – 5 p.m.).

My tips for Montreal's Christmas markets

  • Plan a market-hopping weekend. On November 27–29, the Grand Marché de Noël, the Atwater Christmas Village, the Old Port market and the Longueuil market are all open at once.
  • Bring layers. Most of these markets are outdoors. If it's freezing, the Old Port market is indoors and heated, so you can shop where it's warm.
  • Take the metro downtown. Place-des-Arts, Lionel-Groulx and Champ-de-Mars put you a short walk from the three big Montreal markets.
  • Check the market's site before you go. Hours change around the holidays and in bad weather.

Voilà! Let the countdown to Christmas begin!

Which one are you most excited to visit? Let me know in the comments! I'll be sure to visit one each weekend!
