One of my summer’s favorite activities is kayaking! Why, you may ask? I grew up by the sea. My summers always involved beach and pool days. So, naturally, I’m happier when I’m close to the waters. I started kayaking a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed it!

But, for whatever sports you practice, especially water activities, you must be prepared to enjoy it safely.

Here’s a list of things to pack when you go on a Kayak Day Trip:

[The list excludes the Kayak and Paddles]

Safety First

  • Personal Floating Device (PFD) or life jacket is a requirement by law. If you’re renting your Kayaks, expect to be given one. If you’re getting your equipment, make sure to pack one!
  • Bailer Safety Kit, here again, if you’re renting, it should be provided to you (they are required by law)
  • A sound signaling device or a whistle – usually comes with your PFD or Safety Kit.
  • Headlamp or flashlight, especially if you’re kayaking/canoeing after dark.
  • First Aid Kit
  • A map
