One of my summer’s favorite activities is kayaking! Why, you may ask? I grew up by the sea. My summers always involved beach and pool days. So, naturally, I’m happier when I’m close to the waters. I started kayaking a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed it!
But, for whatever sports you practice, especially water activities, you must be prepared to enjoy it safely.
Here’s a list of things to pack when you go on a Kayak Day Trip:

Safety First
- Personal Floating Device (PFD) or life jacket is a requirement by law. If you’re renting your Kayaks, expect to be given one. If you’re getting your equipment, make sure to pack one!
- Bailer Safety Kit, here again, if you’re renting, it should be provided to you (they are required by law)
- A sound signaling device or a whistle – usually comes with your PFD or Safety Kit.
- Headlamp or flashlight, especially if you’re kayaking/canoeing after dark.
- First Aid Kit
- A map
Essential Items
- Insect Repellent, never underestimate mosquito bites
- Sunscreen Protector
- Water Bottle with plenty of water
- Energy Snacks
Recommended Items
- Cell Phone waterproof bag
- Dry Bag, to store your phone, wallet, and food
- Multi-Tool
- Towel, so you can dry up once you’re done
- A change of clothes that you can keep in your car
- Sunglasses
In terms of Clothing
- Swimsuits
- Short or quick dry pants
- Tank Top or sun protector sleeve shirt
- Water Shoes
- Rain Jacket (just in case)
